For the last 7 years Tati Weiss worked in Nes Ammim as head Study & PR. Tati has meant a lot to the volunteers in these 7 years. She was responsible for the excursions, seminars, the great amount of lectures, the Hebrew course, and her work to improve the public relations.
The recognition that many people felt, was expressed at her shalom party on a warm Wednesday evening. On this evening, Nes Ammimniks and good acquaintances came together, photos of Tati were projected and words of thanks were spoken. Jane Cynkus, the general manager of Nes Ammim, spoke about Tati's cooperation with the coordination team, her always good mood and her ability to deal with critics. Many volunteers expressed their gratitude for the always filled study program, because of the importance of it in the daily life in Nes Ammim. Also Youssuf Mubarki and Tanja Ronen said words of thanks.
We wish Tati good luck in her new job, and we hope that the volunteers in Nes Ammim were left with a special and wide perspective on Israel. |

Sunday morning, four o'clock. The sun is still hiding below the horizon, there is just some light produced by a small campfire in front of us which draws shadows on the sleeping bags. It's our task to be night watch, thus we observe the desert, our friends and our luggage. Time is passing slowly, as the desert is quite cold in the night in November.
The sky which turns from black to dark blue is a sign for the new day to be on its way. When the sun rises at seven, there is nothing left of the bitterly cold night. We are all well prepared for a t-shirt-day in the desert, and when we enter the bus which brings us to a nearby group of rocks, our sleeping bags and blankets have already been dried by the sun.
When climbing up the rocks, we have to pass a small canyon; ropes support the climbing wherever the stone does not give enough hold. The view from the small path which we reach after climbing for a while compensates all exertion. We stop our walk several times as the head of the study department, Tati Weiss, gives short lectures about plants in the desert, special geological formations like craters formed by erosion and the meaning of the desert for the young and the modern State of Israel.
During the day we will visit the Machtesh Ramon as well as the burial place of David Ben Gurion.
You can find further information about the study program here. Pictures of the seminar are stored in our picture gallery. |
